The work belonged to the Corinth family and was always transferred upon the death of the previous owner: in 1925 Lovis Corinth bequeathed the work to his wife Charlotte Berend Corinth, who upon her death passed it on to her son Thomas Corinth who in turn passed it to his sister Wilhelmine Corinth. Wilhelmine Corinth was George Hecker’s mother.
