Gathering of Sages by a Stream

Description

Seated outside a hermitage formed from a rocky outcrop, are six figures who appear to be holding a discussion. The first sits on tiger skin and at the base of the rock, divided from the rest of the group by a small stream. He wears a blue tunic, red pants, and a distinct yellow hat with its four corners flared and curved upward. His left hand is placed over his chest. He faces a gesturing figure across the stream who kneels on a small rock. This second figure wears a brown robe and a green bell-shaped cap. At the bottom of the painting are three figures. On the left is a kneeling figure wearing a blue robe, red shawl, and a white turban. He faces two figures seated on a floral carpet. The one closest to him wears a pink robe with a fur-trimmed collar and rests against a large, red, cylindrical pillow. He looks down to a book in front of him. The second figure, who is kneeling points to this book while holding another in his left hand. He wears an orange robe with a green shawl. The final figure kneels on a rock next to the stream on the right. He has a book on his lap and wears a green robe, black shawl, and a blue bell-shaped cap.
