18th century
In this unfinished painting, a large hunting party is depicted on a rolling green landscape. The hunters are shown mounted, on foot leading their horses, or simply on foot. One member of the party is in a cart drawn by two, large, white oxen. A mounted figure on the far right holds up his left arm on which a falcon is perched. Towards the bottom middle of the page is a caparisoned horse. An attendant dressed in a green turban and green robe (jama) holds the steed by the reins in one hand, while holding a matchlock gun in the other. The horse most likely belongs to the figure on the left. He wears a green turban and long green robe. The figure holds up, by the neck, a white goose. At his feet a falcon attacks a brown, black, and white duck. In the top left corner, white geese circle in the air, with another bird nearly in the middle. Pahari Style.
