When successful businesswoman Katya's daughter tries to commit suicide, she becomes an economics teacher in order to be closer to her daughter and understand what the kids are up to at school. At the same time, Alex, a new English teacher, former lawyer, son of the principal, and newly engaged, also comes to the school. As sparks begin between Katya and Alex, the skeletons of the past still haunt them and won't let our heroes go.

The story is based on the history of Ukraine through the eyes of a long-lived Volyn peasant, Yakiv Mekh. Unable to change anything, Yakiv leaves the village. He joins the Polish army and meets a Polish noblewoman, Zosia... His fate includes wars, captivity, and the loss of loved ones, but its main outcome is the preservation of humanity and the ability to love.

Holos Krainy is part of the international syndication The Voice based on the reality singing competition launched in the Netherlands as The Voice of Holland, created by Dutch television producer John de Mol. It was the second international adaptation of the programme, after the American version.
