Sketchbook with cardboard cover and maroon cloth spine. Pages of off-white wove paper. Sewn page block. Sketchbook is incomplete, with eighteen pages remaining. Thirty-three drawings. The pages have been numbered in red-brown ink in the upper right corners. The last page in the book is unnumbered; the number may have been lost with the corner of the page. Two pages appear to be missing: one after page four and one after page 15. Contents: Sketches in varying degrees of detail for the "Hell" and "Judgment" lunettes at the Boston Public Library, including a number of studies of the scales in "Judgment." Also, a compositional sketch that appears to be an unused concept for "Judgment;" figural and architectural sketches, including a sketch of vaulting, one of a balustrade, and one of arches.
