Industrial Problems, Welfare Work: United States. Illinois. Illinois Steel Company: Welfare of Employees at the Factory: 10 acre plot adjacent to plant, divided into lots approximately 85' x 50'. Ground ploughed, broken up, and then turned over by the Company to the men on condition that they or their families will plant it and keep it in good condition.  Tools, seeds and other supplies are purchased by the Company in quantities and sold to the men at cost.  Of the large variety of vegetables raised, corn, tomatoes, potatoes and beans predominate.
