1575-1600
This tapestry shows a landscape with riders on horseback attacking leopards. In the foreground, two leopards play with a mirror while a monkey caresses her young. A palace with a formal garden, several bridges and a baldachin define the background. The tapestry no longer has its original borders. The simple gilded and blue border is a later addition. The subject, color scheme and style are consistent with verdure tapestry production in Oudenaarde in the last quarter of the 16th century. (Although similar tapestries were also produced in Brussels at this time).
